Homesickness affects nearly everyone at one point or another. Camp often puts campers in new situations that can stretch their emotions, this sometimes leads to homesickness. Campers affected by homesickness might feel sad or experience physical symptoms, such as headaches or stomachaches. Homesickness can be worked through, we encourage campers to stay and to continue to engage in activities. Before the child leaves home, try to avoid saying things like “I don’t know what I’ll do without you here” or “if you don’t like camp you can come home”. Our staff is trained to lovingly help your camper work through their homesickness. The American Camping Association has some great tips for conquering homesickness; you can view them by clicking here.
